Three Decisions That Shaped Our Church in 2025
Jan 13, 2026
Decisions matter. Our churches reflect our decisions. Let me share three key decisions we made at Axiom in 2025.
A need for additional space frames the first two decisions. We called properties, talked to churches, and explored a few crazy ideas before concluding that the only available option was to add more space. This brings us to our first decision.
We reached out to seek wise counsel. You would think that we would have done this right off the bat. We didn’t! We did everything we knew to do and then reached out. While this is not a plug for Aspire, I have to say that we were overwhelmed with the number of godly leaders from Aspire we encountered who were so willing to share, encourage, and pour into us. The wise counsel of these leaders has helped us take giant strides.
Second, our leadership committed itself to an extended time of prayer and fasting. As I reached out to other leaders about our situation, one of them asked me, “Have you and your leaders prayed and fasted about this together?” We had not. The truth is, we got so caught up in the practical, everyday tasks we thought we needed to do that we missed this wonderful spiritual opportunity God has made available to us. Our leadership committed to praying and fasting together. Ultimately, our direction did not change, but our leadership is now walking together in far greater confidence than before. God has made his direction clear, and we know it.
Third, we handled a leadership change with grace and transparency. Last fall, we needed to ask a leader to step down from a position. We are grateful this leader has remained at our church. But, as you might imagine, the change has tempted some towards gossip and division. Instead of putting the “right spin” on things, our leadership made the decision to share the truth and trust the Holy Spirit’s work in our people to protect and discern. We had many conversations and answered many different questions. I believe that our attempts to be honest and gracious, coupled with many prayers, allowed us to navigate the situation without issue. I sometimes wonder if, in situations like this, we trust ourselves and clever answers more than we trust the Lord and his truth.
I’m thankful for these decisions we made at Axiom in 2025. May God continue to help all of us make good decisions in 2026.
